The field of hematopathology is rapidly evolving. Along with advancements in the fields of flow cytometry and molecular diagnostics, the assessment of minimal residual disease (MRD) has progressively become a cornerstone in the clinical management of hematologic malignancies. The idea to have a special issue on hematopathology in the Indian Journal of Medical and Pediatric Oncology (IJMPO) was conceptualized by Dr. Padmaj S. Kulkarni (Editor-in-Chief at that time) and was further materialized under the current Editor-in-chief Dr. Seema Gulia. I feel honored to have been given an opportunity to be the Editor for this special issue in my field of interest and expertise.

In this special issue, we focus on the importance of dialogue between clinical hematologists and hematopathologists and the role of flow cytometry and molecular genetic techniques in the diagnosis of hematologic malignancies. This special issue also discusses the technical aspects, clinical implications, advantages, and pitfalls of MRD monitoring in patients being treated for acute leukemias.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all authors for their quality time in shaping up their respective manuscripts. Without the cooperation of the authors, it would not have been possible to complete this issue within its stipulated time frame. All the manuscripts in this issue underwent double-blinded review by two to three expert reviewers and I am thankful to all these reviewers for their constructive inputs in moulding up the manuscripts to their current form. This special issue is also the fruit of the tireless hard work put up by our editorial staff and publishing team.

Hope that I have done justice to the job entrusted on me and I am thankful to IJMPO for this opportunity. I expect the readers to relish each manuscript in this special issue and make the most use of it in their day-to-day practice.
