Born on 20 March 1949, this important French homeopathic physician and author learned homeopathy at the Centre Homeopathique Lyonnais (Homeopathic Center of Lyon) and was also a student and later colleague of Jacques Jouanny (1927–2023), MD. He graduated from the Lyon Medical School in 1976. His medical thesis concerned the soul: ‘Les Localisations anatomiques de l'ame a travers l'histoire' (The anatomical locations of the soul throughout history).

In 1977, he commenced his clinical practice in Ecully. He became a consultant at the Saint-Luc Hospital and later at the l'hotel-Dieu de Lyon. Masson went on to teach homeopathy where he learned it, in Lyon, and became that organizations general secretary in 1978. Dr Masson served in varying administrative capacities, i.e., vice-president, of the Syndicat National des Médecins Homéopathes Français (National Syndicate of French Homeopathic Physicians – SNMHF) from 1978 to 1990 then again, starting in 1999. He served as general secretary for the Société Rhodanienne d'Homéopathie (Rhone Society of Homeopathy – SRH) in 1998 and became president of this society in 2002 and, in 2003, organized a national congress of homeopathy in Avignon. The theme of that congress was ‘Homeopathic Medicine: identity and presence.'

With doctors Jacques Jouanny, Jean-Bernard Crapanne and Henri Dancer, they edited Therapeutique Homeopathique. Possibilites en pathologie aigue (1986; 3rd-2003; 1st English edition, 1996) and Possibilites en pathologie chronique (1988; 4th-2003; 1st English edition, 1994).

Masson wrote a lay book, L'Homeopathie de A a Z: mieux connaitre l'homéopathie pour bien l'utiliser au quotidien (2003, 2019), which gained a certain popularity.

‘Jean-Louis was a scholar, researcher, author of numerous writings. He was also a pragmatist in all circumstances, a quality he used with a multifaceted sense of humor. Finally, he was a great homeopathic general practitioner for some forty years'.

‘He also served as visiting lecturer in several faculties of pharmacy and was a medical consultant to the research department of Boiron Laboratories'. – https://www.snmhf.net/fr/458-deces-du-dr-jean-louis-masson (accessed 16 August 2023).
