Dear Associate Editors, Readers, Colleagues, and Friends,

I am deeply honored to step into the role of Editor-in-Chief for the European Journal of Pediatric Surgery (EJPS), following in the esteemed footsteps of my mentor, Prof. Benno Ure. His leadership has significantly shaped our journal, and I am committed to continuing his legacy within the pediatric surgical community.

The EJPS is a premier international journal, showcasing the latest developments and advances in the surgical care of neonates, infants, children, and adolescents. My editorial experience as the Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Pediatric Surgery Reports (EJPS Reports) has prepared me well for this new position.

Since Fritz Rehbein founded the “Zeitschrift für Kinderchirurgie” in 1964, pioneers like Alex Holschneider, Yann Revillon, and Benno Ure, have transformed the European Journal of Pediatric Surgery in the current state, enhancing its standing in the international pediatric surgical community. Today, EJPS proudly serves as an official journal for 28 European Societies of Pediatric Surgery, European Paediatric Surgeons Association (EUPSA), Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes (UEMS), and European Reference Network on inherited and congenital anomalies (ERNICA).

The landscape of medical writing has evolved significantly over the past decade, with the acceleration of social media and the Worldwide COVID-19 Pandemic, emphasizing the need for rapid and accurate dissemination of scientific information and collaborative efforts to counter misinformation. Our journal's success hinges on the support and dedication of our associate editors, country representatives, and editorial advisors, whose expertise and passion uphold our high standards of academic integrity.

I am optimistic that the enthusiasm of our readers will continue to grow, and I am dedicated to ensuring the ongoing success and advancement of the European Journal of Pediatric Surgery under my leadership. As we navigate challenges such as the influence of artificial intelligence on scientific writing and discussion, I am committed to steering EJPS in a direction that fosters innovation and excellence.

It is a true privilege to serve as your Editor-in-Chief, and I look forward to working with all of you to develop further and enhance EJPS.

Yours sincerely,

Martin Lacher
