The current issue is edited by Dr. Paolo Giacobini who is a research director at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) in Lille, France. His research group is interested in the neuroendocrine regulation of the reproductive axis in physiological and pathological processes. Since his PhD, he has been interested in dissecting the molecular mechanisms underlying the development and function of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons. His studies over the years, many of which are translational, have led to many fundamental contributions to our understanding of the central control of reproduction. His research focuses on neuroscience and neuroendocrinology and has resulted in important publications in prestigious journals such as Nature Medicine, Cell Metabolism, Nature Communications, Science, and Cell, as well as numerous patents. His international visibility is evidenced by numerous invitations to present his work at national and international conferences as an invited speaker and in prestigious institutes (>100). Giacobini is a laureate of an ERC consolidator grant obtained in 2016 and of a Chair in Biology and Health grant allocated by the French government in 2024. In 2023, he was awarded the DRIEU-CHOLET prize of the French Academy of Medicine for his works on the role of anti-Müllerian hormone in the etiology of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

In terms of institutional responsibilities, he has been a member elected to the Board of Directors of the French Society for Neuroscience (2015–2019) and the French Society for Neuroendocrinology (2016–2019). He is a member of the Board of Directors of the AE-PCOS Society. Since 2024, Paolo Giacobini has been the Basic Science Lead of the “Reproductive and Developmental Focus Area” of the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE).
