Organotin oxides and alkoxides take part in rapid substitution and addition reactions with suitable organic compounds containing polar single or multiple bonds. These basic reactions can be combined into a series of processes, some of them catalytic in nature, which may be useful in organic synthesis, and indicate the pattern of behaviour which may be observed with other organometallic oxides and alkoxides.
