The reaction of 2-hydroxyaryl and hydroxyheteroaryl halides with a variety of 1-alkynes in the presence of a base, bis[triphenyl-phosphine]-palladium(II) diacetate, and copper(I) iodide at room temperature or 60°C produces 2-substituted benzo[b]furans, usually in good yield.
