2-Substituted 1,3-benzoxathiolium tetrafluoroborates are obtained in good to high yields by reaction of o-mercaptophenol with aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acids,esters, anhydrides and trihalomethyl compounds utilizing phosphorus oxychloride, tetrafluoroboric acid-ether or boron trifluoride-ether complex as condensing agents. 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectra are reported.
