The conjugate addition of 2-lithio-1,3-dithiane to 2-cyclohexenone followed by quenching of the intermediate enolate anoin with α-chloroacyl chlorides affords 2-substituted 4-(1,3-dithian-2-yl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-3(2H)benzofuranones which can be transformed to the title compounds in good overall yields.
