Acylation of 1,3-dihydroxy-9-acridone can be performed by using thallous ethoxide as intermediary. Accordingly only the monoacylated derivative is obtained. Some bis-(1-hydroxy-9-oxo-9,10-dihydro-3-acridinyl) alkanedioates were prepared by this method as potential DNA intercalating agents.
