Reactions of Uracils; 15.1,2,3 7-Ethoxypyrimido[4,5-d] pyrimidines via a Uracil-Carbodiimide Derivative and Their Products of Aminolysis and Pyrolysis Ethyl 1,3-dimethyl-6-(triphenylphosphoranylideneamino)uracil-5-carboxylate (2) reacts with isocyanates via a uracil-carbodiimide derivative to afford a new approach to 7-ethoxypyrimido[4,5-d]pyrimidines 3a-f. The aminolysis of 3a, b gives the substituted 7-aminopyrimido[4,5-d] pyrimidines 4a-c, whereas the pyrolysis of 3a gives 2,4,5,7-tetraoxo-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-octahydropyrimido [4,5-d]pyrimidine 5 by syn-elimination.
