2-Aryltetrahydropyrans 1 (n=4), have been synthesized in two steps from tetrahydrofurans 1 (n=3) and α-selenoalkyllithiums 3, via 5-aryl-5-methylselenopentan-1-ols 4. The whole process formally involves the regioselective insertion of the carbonyl carbon of an aromatic carbonyl compound in between the C-O bond of the least substituted carbon of the heterocycle.
