2-Phenyloxazolo[4,5-b]pyridines 1 and -[5,4-b]pyridines 4 were functionalized at the 7-position with various electrophiles in good yield. The secondary alcohols 3a,b and 6a,b were oxidized to the corresponding ketones 7a,b and 8a,b with manganese dioxide in high yield.
