We have prepared, via free radical polymerization, soluble redox polymers and copolymers of [M(vbpy)3(PF6)2] (M = Ru, Os) (vbpy = 4-vinyl,4′-methyl-2,2′-bipyridine), fractionated them according to molecular weight and have characterized the fractions electrochemically as well as spectroscopically. The properties of these polymers are compared to those prepared by electroinitiated polymerization on an electrode surface. The results point to fundamental differences between solution (homogeneous) polymerization and (heterogeneous) electropolymerization. 1. Introduction 2. Experimental/synthesis 3.
