Palladium-catalyzed arylation of 4-alkyl substituted 2,3-dihydrofurans leads regio- and diastereoselectively to trans-2,3-disubstituted 2,3-dihydrofurans, which can be converted to anti-aldol derivatives upon ozonolysis. In contrast, vinylation of the title compounds leads to a mixture of 2,3- and 2,5-disubstituted dihydrofurans.
