Tetrabutylammonium dihydrogentrifluoride, Bu4N+H2F3-, was found to be a very efficient catalyst in the ring opening of epoxides by aromatic or heteroaromatic chlorides to prepare the corresponding 2-aryloxy- or 2-heteroaryloxy-1-chloroalkyl derivatives 8 in 62-87% yield, by operating at 90 °C without solvent.
