Rhodium(II) acetate catalysed reaction of triethyl diazophosphonoacetate 2 with amides, carbamates or ureas gives a range of N-acyl phosphonylglycine derivatives 3 by N-H insertion reaction of the intermediate rhodium carbenoid.
