The deconjugation of α,β-unsaturated acid chlorides in the presence of triethylamine and benzyl alcohol in CH2Cl2 affords the corresponding β,γ-unsaturated benzylic esters in high yield and under mild conditions. Moreover by treatment of benzyl 2-bromo-3-methyl-3-butenoate 8 with benzylamine in the presence of trimethylamine, the corresponding benzyl 2-benzylamino-3-methyl-3-butenoate 9 is obtained in good yield.
