Ketals and orthoesters of unsaturated ketones and esters, respectively, undergo facile, ambient temperature inter- and intramolecular ionic Diels-Alder reactions in 4.0-5.0 M lithium perchlorate-diethyl ether containing a few mol % of camphorsulfonic acid.
