The aminolysis of hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene, N3P3Cl6, by long-chain diamines, H2N-(CH2)n-NH2 (n ≥ 6), leads regio-specifically to hexadangling monomeric species provided the experiment is executed on alumina impregnated with potassium hydroxide. These reactions run instantaneously at room temperature. The resulting hexapodans (termed sexapus as reference to octopus with only six tentacles) constitute spherical cores for the design of spherical (i.e., aesthetically similar to dry dandelion flowers) dendrimers.
