A simple and environmentally benign method for the conversion of 2'-aminochalcones to 2-aryl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-4-quinolones is described which occurs under mild and solvent-free conditions on montmorillonite K 10 clay surface; microwave irradiation facilitates the procedure.
