The synthesis of rotaxanes containing urea and carbamate units in the axle by a threading strategy is described. It allows to create a variety of new rotaxanes by using diisocyanates as guests. The formation of these new rotaxanes also shows how tolerant the template effect between amide-based macrocycles and different carbonyl containing guests is.
