Aliphatic, alicyclic, and aromatic secondary amines are converted by 1,1′-(1,2-dioxoethane-1,2-diyl)bis-1H-benzotriazole, in a two-step process, into unsymmetrical tetrasubstituted oxamides in good yields. 1,1′-(1,2-Dioxoethane-1,2-diyl)bis-1H-benzotriazole is available in high yield from benzotriazole and oxalyl chloride.
