Gen- und Immuntherapie des fortgeschrittenen Prostatakarzinoms: von der Laborbank ans Patientenbett

Zusammenfassung

In der urologischen Onkologie stellen das hormonrefraktäre sowie das lokal fortgeschrittene und metastasierte Prostatakarzinom große therapeutische Herausforderungen dar. Die Prognose der betroffenen Patienten ist schlecht und eine kurative Therapie ist derzeit nicht möglich. Jüngste molekularbiologische Erkenntnisse konnten das Verständnis von den genetischen Zusammenhängen für die Entstehung von Krebs erweitern. Infolge dieser Erkenntnisse konnten in den letzten Jahren neue innovative gen- und immuntherapeutische Therapiekonzepte für Patienten mit fortgeschrittenem Prostatakarzinom entwickelt werden. Diese werden in ihren Prinzipien, Möglichkeiten und Grenzen erläutert.

Abstract

Current therapeutic strategies for advanced prostate cancer remain controversial because of their limitations to cure the patient. In response to this, attention is now being focused on developing alternative treatments for patients with advanced prostate cancer, of which one of the most promising is gene and immunotherapy. Prostate cancer provides unique opportunities for these novel therapies because of its characteristic features not seen in other tumors. This review presents the scientific principles and therapeutic potentials and limitations of gene and immune based therapy of prostate cancer.
