An iterative pathway for the synthesis of higher order [n]rotaxanes is described. Stepwise reactions with repeatedly used building blocks lead to rod-shaped axle parts which form threading hydrogen bond interactions with macrocycles. A followed stoppering enables several molecular wheels to be fixed onto an axle.
