Cation exchange resin induced condensation of diethyl benzene-1,3-diyldioxydiacetate and p-methylbenzaldehyde is reported as a novel one-step synthesis of octaethyl 1,8,15,22-tetra-p-methylphenyl[1.4]metacyclophane-3,5,10,12,17,19,24,26-octayl-octaoxyoctaacetate.
