M. Castleman - rare differential diagnosis of a retroperitoneal tumor.
Castleman's disease is a lymphoproliferative disorder nowadays understood as a prelymphoma. Infection with human herpes virus 8 and an increase of interleukin 6 seem to play an important role in etiology and pathogenesis. Associations with several autoimmune diseases do exist and therapy consists of surgery and chemotherapy. In our hospital we excided a tumor from the left retroperitoneum in a 61 year old patient. Histologically it was a localized Castleman's disease. Surgery and hospital stay were without any complication and there was no indication for further adjuvant therapy.
