Summary
We describe a 9-year-old boy who presented with dyspnea and with a neck mass which was initially described as a thyroid nodule. At the end of the diagnostic-therapeutic research this mass was finally diagnosed as an adult rhabdomyoma originating from the mediastinum. This is an extremely rare tumor which is usually found in the adult population.
Résumé
Nous décrivons le cas d'un garçon de 9 ans qui présentait une dyspnée et une masse cervicale décrite comme un nodule thyroïdien. Cette masse est finalement diagnostiquée comme un rhabdomyome de type adulte à point de départ médiastinal. Ceci est une tumeur très rare retrouvée surtout chez l'adulte.
Resumen
Describimos el caso de un niño de 9 años que se presentó con disnea y masa cervical considerada inicialmente como un nódulo tiroideo. Al final del estudio se diagnósticó por fin un rabdoimioma tipo adulto originado en el mediastino. Se trata de un tumor excepcional en niños que suele ser visto en el adulto.
Zusammenfassung
Es wird ein 9-jähriger Knabe beschrieben, der sich mit Dyspnoe und einem Tumor im Halsbereich vorstellte, welcher zunächst als Schilddrüsenknoten behandelt wurde. Nach Durchführung der Diagnose und Therapie konnte schlussendlich ein Rhabdomyom vom Erwachsenentyp diagnostiziert werden, das vom Mediastinum ausging. Während diese Tumorform im Erwachsenenalter, wenn auch selten, beobachtet wird, ist ein mediastinales Rhabdomyom dieser Lokalisation im Kindesalter eine Rarität.
