Products that possess 4-azido-3-chlorobenzyl group were selectively isolated from reaction mixtures by using a solid-supported phosphine. Successive treatment with 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyanobenzoquinone radily liberated purified products. Application of this method to several oligosaccharide syntheses is described.
