Strictureplasty for Crohn's Disease

ABSTRACT

As surgery for Crohn's disease has evolved, efforts have been made to conserve small bowel. Strictureplasty was originally advocated as a last resort to preserve bowel. However with the knowledge that Crohn's disease recurs, and as experience was gained with the technique, the success and low complication rate has led surgeons to broaden the indications for its use. The indications, contraindication, types of strictureplasty, and published results are reviewed.
