Edouard Herriot Experience with the MARS in 5 Patients experiencing Hepatic Failure

Patients
Five adult patients, 4male and 1 female, aged from 49 to 76 years, were treated by MARS. Indications were liver failure secondary: to extended hepatectomy in 2 cases (patients 1 and 5), to acute severe rejection in 2 transplanted patients (patients 2 and 3) and to exacerbation of end-stage liver cirrhosis due to B virus (patient 4).
At the time MARS was started, patient conditions are summarized in table [1].

Numbers of MARS sessions were 2, 1, 2, 7 and 1 in patients 1,2, 3, 4 and 5 respectively. Total duration of sessions were 16, 8, 25, 87 and 5 hours.
