MR Imaging of the Tendons of the Foot and Ankle

This issue of Seminars in Musculoskeletal Radiology is especially close to our hearts because of our keen interest in the imaging of foot and ankle disorders. We greatly appreciate the work of Ted Miller and his assembled contributors.

Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the foot and ankle has advanced greatly over the last decade. The latest improvements in imaging are conveyed to the readers of this issue. To us, the beauty of interpreting imaging of the feet is their specificity. This area is complex enough to be truly challenging, yet the disorders are focal enough to be specific in diagnosis. Consequently, clinicians and foot surgeons have benefited from the advanced imaging of this anatomic region.

MR and ultrasound have enabled patients to obtain the best treatment, either conservative or surgical, and, more important, have allowed doctors to stage disease more accurately. This staging of disease is one of the great advances of foot and ankle imaging in the last few years. As radiologists, we have become more intimately involved in the treatment and care of foot and ankle disorders, far beyond that which was possible 20 or even 5 years ago.

We congratulate Ted Miller on his success as guest editor of this special issue dedicated to advanced imaging of the foot and ankle.
