ABSTRACT
Through the initial consultation between patient and clinician, much can be learned regarding the probable underlying condition causing the patient's symptoms. A complete medical history and interview that includes the nature and onset of the vertiginous attack may lead to the triage of certain disorders by the experienced clinician, even before comprehensive testing is conducted. Many disorders affecting the labyrinth have unique characteristics, and the experienced clinician may use the patient's description to help guide in the triage of appropriate evaluation protocols. This article will deal with the highlights of the clinician-patient interview, as well as serve as a review of common vestibular disorders.
