Abstract
Surgical treatment of the fractures of the head of the humerus is still a subject for controversial discussion. If a conservative strategy is not indicated, intramedullary nailing (Targon PH) must be considered. In a prospective study 15 patients (45-80 years) suffering from a fracture of the head of the humerus (A3-C2, AO Classification) were treated with a Targon PH nail. Postoperative mobility in a 16-week follow-up was excellent. Nailing with this new kind of intramedullary stabilization using screws of angle-rigid construction in the humerus head and so sparing vascularisation and adjacent soft-tissue cover can be an alternative to other more invasive procedures.
