ABSTRACT

After a short review of the requirements and the examination's technique, different indications of ultrasound-guided interventional procedures are described. Older indications such as abscess drainage or diagnostic core biopsy of tumors and newer and lesser-known newer indications are described. Among them are the removal of foreign bodies of the hand, the percutaneous tenotomy of the patellar tendon, and the removal of supraspinatus calcified deposits. Ultrasound-guided interventional procedures are safe, easy to perform, and less invasive than many others are. They are sometimes underused in clinical practice but should be evaluated in each clinical case in which they might be helpful.
