Retrorectal or presacral tumors are rare tumors that cause vague symptoms. The differential
diagnosis of a retrorectal lesion is broad, but the most common lesions are congenital
with two thirds of these being developmental cysts. Digital rectal exam usually reveals
the lesion and radiographic evaluation with plain X-ray and computed tomography scan
or magnetic resonance imaging adds information regarding the nature of the lesion
and its upper extent. Operative intervention generally takes place without preoperative
biopsy through either a posterior, abdominal, or combined approach.
