Summary

In the juvenile idiopathic arthritis the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is affected by 29 %-69 %. The occurrence is often asymptomatic at first. If the involvement of the TMJ remains undiscovered it leads to severe morphological and functional changes. That is why an early diagnosis and a subsequent therapy are recommended during child's development. Routine interdisciplinary cooperation between the pediatric rheumatologist and the orthodontist should be performed.
