Foreword

The Governing Boards of the ESGE and ESGENA are proud to present guidelines for the organization and conduct of educational activities including live demonstration of endoscopic techniques. Such live demonstrations have a high educational value, surpassing edited videotape teaching as well as teaching using simulators.

Live demonstration is an integral part of numerous courses and meetings and it is the ESGE’s goal to set a high standard for such events to ensure appropriateness, safety and adherence to ethical standards, for the patients and the doctors and nurses involved.

This guideline has been written according to ideas from an American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) ”White Paper” and input from members of the Governing Boards of the ESGE and ESGENA, members of the ESGE Education Committee and partners from the biomedical industry.
