Ammonium Cerium(IV) Nitrate as an Efficient Oxidizing Agent for Fused 1,4-Dihydropyridazine Derivatives and Hydrazides

Abstract
A simple method for the aromatization of a fused 1,4-dihydropyridazine ring as well as a concomitant oxidation of a carbohydrazido group into the corresponding esters is presented. In particular, 1,4,6,7,8,9-hexahydro-5H-pyridazino[4,3-c]azepine-3-carboxylic acid hydrazides 1 are rapidly oxidized using six equivalents of ammonium cerium(IV) nitrate (CAN) in different alcohols to the corresponding fused pyridazine esters 3.
