Two new depsides as well as the known p-hydroxybenzoic acid and its methyl ester, protocatechuic acid, 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-ethanol, 2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-ethanol and the flavonoids kaempferol, quercetin, luteolin and hypolaetin and the glycosides 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosylquercetin (isoquercitrine), 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosylkaempferol (astragaline), 3-O-β-D-galactopyranosylquercetin (hyperoside) were isolated from the methanol extract of the petals of Papaver rhoeas L. (Papaveraceae). The elucidation of their structures was based on NMR spectral evidence.
