Die Harninkontinenz der Frau ist eine Volkskrankheit. Je nach Definitionen leiden bis zu 40 % aller Frauen

Bis zu 40 % aller Frauen leiden unter Harninkontinenz.
unter dem unwillkürlichen Urinabgang. Gehen wir von einer durchschnittlichen Erkrankungsrate von 25 % aus, so sind deutlich mehr Frauen von dieser Krankheit betroffen als von koronaren Herzerkrankungen, Hypertonie, Diabetes, Depressionen und anderen Erkrankungen. Zwar steigt mit zunehmendem Alter die Inzidenz

der Harninkontinenz, sie ist jedoch keineswegs auf ältere Patientinnen beschränkt. Auch jüngere Frauen können betroffen sein. Leistungssportlerinnen sind sogar zu einem größeren Teil während ihrer aktiven Laufbahn beim Sport inkontinent. Immer wenn die Belastung größer ist als die Belastbarkeit des Beckenbodens, kommt es zur Inkontinenz. Die Inkontinenz tritt häufig auf nach Schwangerschaften und Geburten sowie nach beruflicher und/oder körperlicher Belastung [[40]].

Die Harninkontinenz ist keine Erkrankung unserer Zeit. Durch die gesamte Menschheitsgeschichte finden wir Zeugnisse hierfür. Auch das älteste vorliegende medizinische Dokument, der Papyrus Ebers, 1500 v. Chr., berichtet von der Harninkontinenz der Frau und über das therapeutische, konservative Bemühen der Ärzte.
