Over a two year period, we have seen 20 cases with physical dependence of tramadol, 17 of them had initially received tramadol for chronic noncancer pain. Clinical characteristics of these patients are given. Twelve of them (60 %) did not complete detoxification, indicating this to be a difficult patient group.
