Score-System for Easier Decisions - Operative or Conservative Treatment of Spinal MetastasesPublication History
Publication Date:
09 June 2004 (online)
Summary
Spinal metastases are frequent and occur in 70 % of all malignant tumours; 30-40 % produce symptoms and 10 % present compression of the spinal cord. They can be diagnosed exactly by magnetresonance imaging (MRI). With a score-system proposed it is possible to analyse the prognostic important parameters of any patient with spinal metastases. The score-system helps to decide the form of therapy - operative or conservative - to control the risk for the patient.
Key Words
spinal metastases - score-system - management of spinal metastases - therapeutic procedures
