In Deutschland wird seit einigen Jahren aus verschiedenen Gründen eine Reform der Hebammenausbildung diskutiert. Ein grundlegender Ansatz des Bundes Deutscher Hebammen (BDH) sieht die Akademisierung der Hebammenausbildung vor [1]. In Australien ist dies bereits geschehen, die Hebammenausbildung ist seit etwa zehn Jahren an Hochschulen angesiedelt. Ein Blick dorthin kann für uns bereichernd sein und dazu beitragen, die Vor- und Nachteile des eigenen Systems deutlicher werden zu lassen [24].
