Zusammenfassung
Der Wunsch, ganz nebenbei ohne Änderung des Lebensstils, Gewicht zu verlieren, ist ein zentrales Bedürfnis vieler Menschen. Nur so ist es zu erklären, dass »Schlankheitsprodukte« zu den Rennern am Markt zählen. Bereits die Hoffnung auf eine Gewichtsreduktion reicht für viele Verbraucher offenbar aus, elementare - am eigenen Leib erfahrene - Kenntnisse über die Zusammenhänge von Gewicht, Ernährung und Bewegung über Bord zu werfen und sich oft obskuren Heilversprechen hinzugeben. Bei nüchterner wissenschaftlicher Betrachtung erfüllen viele Produkte a priori den Tatbestand des Betrugs und der Irreführung. Dort, wo eine wissenschaftliche Rationale besteht, sind die gewichtsreduzierenden Effekte durchweg gering ausgeprägt, so dass diesen Substanzen eher ein adjuvanter Charakter im Rahmen evidenzbasierter Konzepte zur Gewichtsreduktion zukommen könnte. Der Traum vom Abnehmen im Schlaf bleibt dagegen genau das - ein Traum!
Summary
Many people are dreaming of a body weight reduction without changing the lifestyle. This is the reason why slimming products are extremely successful on the market. For many consumers even the hope of weight loss is sufficient to forget their own basic knowledge and experience on the strong association of weight, diet, and physical exercise and to believe in questionable promises instead. Examined scientifically, the advertising promises of such products turn out not to be true in almost any case. Even if there are some data on a biochemical or pharmacological rationale for an efficacy of such a supplement, in clinical trials the extent of weight reduction was small at best. Therefore, the dream to loose weight without changing the lifestyle remains what it used to be - a dream!
