Ti(III) chloride was found to be an effective catalyst for the deprotection of tetrahydropyranyl ethers of alcohols and phenols at an ambient temperature. Allyl ether, benzyl ether, tert-butyldiphenylsilyl (TBDPS) ether, p-toluenesulfonate ester and isomerizable double bond were found to be compatible under the reaction conditions.
