Bedeutung der arteriellen Hypertonie für Augenerkrankungen

Durch die zunehmende Altersentwicklung werden chronische Erkrankungen in den nächsten Jahren bei der Versorgung der Bevölkerung an Bedeutung gewinnen. Dabei werden Erkrankungen des Auges eine maßgebliche Rolle spielen. In einer kürzlich durchgeführten Longitudinalstudie stieg die Häufigkeit in einer Altersgruppe mit durchschnittlich 65 Jahren entweder einer diabetischen Retinopathie, einer altersbedingten Makuladegeneration oder eines Glaukoms im Laufe von 9 Jahren von 13,4 auf 45,4 % [28] an. Diese drei Augenkrankheiten repräsentieren auch in Deutschland die drei häufigsten Erblindungsursachen [27], so dass es wichtig ist, diese Krankheiten frühzeitiger zu diagnostizieren und besser therapeutisch einzustellen. Dabei besitzt die arterielle Hypertonie als „internistische Volkskrankheit” eine herausragende Bedeutung als Risikofaktor für zahlreiche Augenkrankheiten.
