Abstract
Subclinical hyperthyroidism is the most frequent thyroid dysfunction in Germany and is estimated to account for about 6 % of the undiscovered functional thyroid disorders. Because subclinical hyperthyroidism often causes only less distinct symptoms therapeutic relevance was under debate for long time. The present overview shows the underlying cellular effects of the subclinical hyperthyroidism which influences the energy metabolism and the electrophysiology resp. the gene expression of skeletal muscle and heart.
