Introduction

A number of interesting abstracts dealing with endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) were presented at the 2005 Digestive Disease Week (DDW) meeting in Chicago in May. Due to space limitations, all of them cannot be discussed below. I have selected some abstracts related to EUS for discussion below that were interesting, practical, or controversial. These abstracts were selected after a search in the DDW abstract CD-ROM using the key word ”EUS”. For some topics (e. g., lung cancer) I have selected abstracts on similar themes from various authors to give a view of global trends or thinking in the field. Many great ideas are sometimes independently generated at the same time by individuals with or without any connection between them.
