Kompetenznetz Hepatitis in der zweiten Förderphase - „Hep-Net goes Europe with VIRGIL”

Zusammenfassung

Der vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) geförderte Forschungsverbund „Hep-Net” will - durch eine enge Kooperation mit niedergelassenen Kollegen und Selbsthilfegruppen - über die Infektionen mit den Hepatitis-Viren B und C aufklären, Patienten mit einer Virushepatitisinfektion frühzeitig und durch rationelle diagnostische Verfahren identifizieren sowie möglichst alle therapiebedürftigen Patienten in Deutschland einer qualifizierten Therapie zuführen. Weiterhin soll der Erkenntnisgewinn über Epidemiologie, Pathophysiologie und Therapie der Virushepatitiden auch durch eine verstärkte horizontale Vernetzung von klinischen Forschergruppen und Grundlagenforschern innerhalb des Hep-Net beschleunigt werden und rascher in neuen Therapieoptionen für den Patienten münden. Die bisher erzielten Ergebnisse aus den ersten drei Förderjahren des Forschungsverbundes sollen zukünftig verstärkt in europäische Kooperationsprojekte - wie dem VIRGIL1-Netzwerk zur Erforschung von viralen Resistenzen, das von der Europäischen Union (EU) gefördert wird - einfließen und zu weiteren Synergieeffekten durch die etablierte Forschungs-Infrastruktur beitragen.

Summary

With the integration of physicians in private practices and patient advocacy groups, Hep-Net provides education and training in the field, and tries to identify patients early and by rational diagnostic procedures in order to give access to qualified therapeutic strategies for those with an indication for therapy. Research on epidemiology, pathophysiology of viral hepatitis, and the best treatment strategies will be accelerated by the fortified horizontal cooperation between clinical and basic scientists within Hep-Net, hopefully leading to a faster availability of new and optimized treatment options for the patients. So far, achieved results of Hep-Net will now also be devolved to European cooperative research projects, in example to the European network of excellence „Virgil” for vigilance against viral resistance. This cooperation will achieve synergistic effects out of the already established research infrastructure.
