In patients with bipolar illness, rapid cycling - defined as four or more episodes per year - is recognized as a condition that is relatively resistant to treatment [3]. We report a case of a woman with rapid-cycling bipolar II disorder who was successfully treated with quetiapine, a psychotropic agent that has previously been used for the treatment of schizophrenia and mania [2] [4] [6]. Within 6 months of initiating treatment, her mood swings subsided and her comorbid conditions of anxiety and social phobia improved.
